A quick stop off I-64 in Palmyra, In for some so so Lee’s fried Chicken christened the midway 3
1/2 hr jaunt to Cincy via Louisville ky.
The economic Travelodge in Newport, Ky located just across the river from Cincinnati was our destination. The Great American Ball Park (Where the Reds play) is a feet tingling breath taking 20 min walk across the fan friendly bridge into Downtown Cincy!
Karen and I freshened up, dawned our Cubs gear and had a couple stiff drinks before hiking over to GABP to purchase our 7:05 pm night game tickets.
We splurged for a couple of great seats down the 3rd base line. (A whole $32 a ticket) The Fox Sports Ohio crew was located in our section also we met Mr.Redlegs, Tony Campana and were treated to a pitching gem of a game by Jeff Samardzija.
Cubs Win Cubs Win Cubs Win!
Karen and I celebrated with a large pizza pie from Domino’s and a few drinks before drifting off to la la land!
The next morning we discovered a Mall, Aquarium, Scenic views and $2 parking for game #2! Believe it or not only in Kentucky would you put an Aquarium right next to a Fish Market restaurant! Oh well Plenty of shopping, eating and taking in the view passed the time till we crossed the river for the 12:35 pm Cubs vs Reds game.
Karen and I sit in the $10 bleacher section and were treated ya another beautiful gem pitched by Ryan Dempster and the long balling “Blues in Cincinnati” for what looked like win 2 until Marmol the Mutilator blew the save and our Cubbies lost 4-3 in 10. At least we got some sun and witnessed Carlos Marmol’s last kill as a closer!
The trip home was a little somber but we enjoyed a 5-way a skyline Chili anyway oh and a traffic jam in the middle of nowhere. Delicious memories we made and the grand total cost of the trip was $361 ..not bad!
